Discover the magic of Bogotá
Find Bogotá's language community with Lingo Locate
Bogotá is a vibrant city with many faces – chic bars and restaurants, historic plazas and cultural hotspots but also a grittier side in the barrios and the issues typical to large urban centres. It divides opinion but those that stay, come to love it. As the capital it provides many language schools and tutors, and an active international scene.
About the city
Situated on a plateau below the famous Cerro de Monserrate, Bogotá isn’t the most attractive city at first glance. But look further and you will find grand plazas, traditional cobbled streets, interesting street art and plenty of green space.
Travel within the city is relatively easy, with good bus networks and cycle lanes. Although avoid rush hour peaks where traffic can be heavy. Bogotá’s weather isn’t the best compared to other Colombian locations, but visitors find that the enjoyable city life makes up for it.
The city’s colonial centre, La Candelaria, is where most travellers head for its museums, restaurants, hotels and bars. In the wealthier north of the city you’ll find stylish shopping districts, boutique hotels and chic restaurants. Try Zona Rosa and Zona G to enjoy the finer side of Bogotá life.
Bogotá’s language scene is the largest in the country due to the significant number of expats, volunteers and long-term backpackers who stay here. Colombia Spanish and Learn More Than Spanish are popular schools, or head to Universidad del Rosario or Universidad EAN for longer term courses.
